Central Asia Barometer Survey Wave 7

Country: Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan.

Dates: 26.06.2020 - 30.07.2020

Research Design: The goal of this project was to obtain a reliable image of public opinion in several countries. The survey included questions about media usage, the political and economic situation in each country, public health, attitudes towards the government, and opinions on other countries; in addition, the survey provided demographic information, such as age, education level, and employment status, among others.

Usually, the Central Asia Barometer Survey is carried out via face-to-face interviews; however, due to lockdowns and restrictions engendered by the COVID-19 pandemic, for the first time the wave was administered via telephone interviews. Therefore, simple random sampling (SRS) of mobile phone numbers was used to obtain a nationally representative sample in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. In Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, all interviews were completed via desktop CATI applications from either in-office or at-home stations. In Uzbekistan, all interviews were completed on tablets with calls made from mobile phones. In Kyrgyzstan, some interviewers used a desktop CATI application, and some used tablets and mobile phones. The sample size was of 1500 in each country.
