December 23, 2020 CAB Media Market and Public Opinion Trends Survey Autumn 2020 Wave

December 23, 2020, Central Asia Barometer has finalized the 2020 Autumn Wave of its survey project Media Market and Public Opinion Trends, which is a survey of respondents who are of voting age (18+) in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. 

  • Simple random sampling (SRS) of mobile phone numbers was utilized to obtain a nationally representative sample of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.   
  • In Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, all interviews were completed via desktop CATI applications from either in-office or in-home stations. In Uzbekistan, all interviews were completed on tablets with mobile phones used for calling from in-home stations.  
  • The questionnaire includes questions about media usage, the political and economic situation in each of the countries, public health, attitudes towards the government, and opinions of other countries in addition to questions capturing demographic information, such as age, education level, and employment status, among others.
  • Fieldwork in Kazakhstan was conducted between October 8 and November 23, 2020, and was completed by 26 interviewers. Fieldwork in Kyrgyzstan was conducted between October 14 and November 8, 2020, and was completed by 42 interviewers. Fieldwork in Tajikistan was conducted between October 12 and November 6, 2020, and was completed by 43 interviewers.  Fieldwork in Uzbekistan was conducted between October 9 and November 5, 2020, and was completed by 16 interviewers.  
  • Sample Size:  n=8,052; 2,000 in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan; 2,052 in Tajikistan
  • Incorporating the mean design effects into these estimates yields the following margins of error:  

    o Kazakhstan: 2.63% o Kyrgyzstan: 2.69% o Tajikistan: 3.15% o Uzbekistan: 2.72%
