CAB Statement on Temporary Suspension of Operations

[16/09/24]

As the current Director of the Central Asia Barometer (CAB), I regret to announce that, effective December 1, we will temporarily suspend all operations. This long-planned decision is due to the growing insecurity and challenges in conducting ethical survey research in the region, which has significantly impacted our ability to continue our work.

Until December 1, CAB will ensure that all contractual obligations are fulfilled and will conduct several events aligned with our mission. We remain committed to serving the research and academic community interested in Central Asia during this period.

After December 1, while all core operations will cease, CAB will maintain a small part-time team to process emails and requests. Please note that responses may take up to one week. Our website will remain functional, and CAB survey data will continue to be available to all interested parties. We encourage anyone seeking access or further information to reach out to us through the usual channels.

If you have any concerns or issues related to this suspension, please send an email to info@ca-barometer.org. We will address all inquiries as promptly as possible.

We recognize the impact of this suspension and will communicate any updates if circumstances change. For immediate inquiries, please contact info@ca-barometer.org.

We hope that the situation regarding academic freedom in the region improves, allowing us to resume our activities in the future. We will keep you informed of any changes in the situation. For urgent inquiries, please contact us at info@ca-barometer.org.

Sincerely,
Kasiet Ysmanova
Director, Central Asia Barometer (CAB)
